The Momentum Centre community joins many across Manitoba and beyond in honouring the life and legacy of Dr. Barry Lavallee. As we reflect and celebrate the impact he had on so many, we remember a respected Indigenous physician, leader, advocate, and above all, a deeply caring human being. Dr. Lavallee dedicated his life to advancing Indigenous health equity and to creating systems of care rooted in respect, dignity, and cultural understanding. His work was guided by compassion and a strong belief that healthcare must serve people in ways that truly honour who they are.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lavallee was known for his integrity, thoughtfulness, and deep commitment to Indigenous communities, patients, and students. As Chief Executive Officer of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc., he led through times of great complexity with steadiness, humility, and heart. His leadership left a lasting impact on healthcare in Manitoba and on the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him.
This loss is felt especially close to home at The Momentum Centre. Dr. Lavallee was the beloved father of Ashley, our Senior Project Leader. We honour him not only for his professional legacy, but for the values he lived by: kindness, strength, and a deep commitment to community.
Dr. Lavallee’s legacy will continue to inspire the work we do and the care we strive to bring into the world.
